BPC-157: What the Research Shows

Research library

This guide summarises what BPC-157 is, what researchers have studied it for, and how strong that evidence is.

What is BPC-157?

BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide, a chain of 15 amino acids (sequence GEPPPGKPADDAGLV). It is a partial sequence of a protein first isolated from human gastric juice, called body protection compound, which is where the name "BPC" comes from. It is often described as unusually stable in gastric juice compared with many other peptides.

What has BPC-157 been studied for?

  • Tendon and ligament models: laboratory and animal studies have examined tendon fibroblast outgrowth, survival and migration.
  • Gastrointestinal research: much of the early work looked at the stomach and intestinal lining in animal models.
  • Blood vessel formation: studies have looked at angiogenesis and the nitric oxide system.
  • The gut-brain axis: a group of papers explores interactions between the gut and the nervous system.

How strong is the evidence?

Most published research on BPC-157 comes from cell culture and animal models, and a large share comes from one research group. Human clinical data is very limited, and BPC-157 is not approved as a medicine by any major regulator, including SAHPRA. It also appears on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List. Researchers should treat it as an investigational compound.

BPC-157 at Meytrix

Meytrix supplies BPC-157 as a 10mg research pen, and in combination with TB-500 in the Wolverine Stack and the GLOW and KLOW stacks. Tested batches are published on our COA page. Read how it compares with TB-500 in BPC-157 vs TB-500.

Frequently asked questions

What does BPC stand for?

Body protection compound. BPC-157 is a 15 amino acid partial sequence of a protein originally isolated from human gastric juice.

Is BPC-157 an approved medicine?

No. BPC-157 is not approved as a medicine by SAHPRA or other major regulators, and most of the research on it is preclinical. Meytrix supplies it for laboratory research use only.

Is BPC-157 the same as TB-500?

No. BPC-157 is a 15 amino acid fragment of a gastric protein, while TB-500 is based on the actin-binding region of thymosin beta-4. They are often studied together in tissue repair research.

Where can I buy BPC-157 in South Africa?

Meytrix supplies BPC-157 research pens from Cape Town with delivery across South Africa, for laboratory research use only.

All Meytrix products are supplied for laboratory research use only and are not for human consumption.
